Day 46 The New Beginning
We hiked 22 miles of completely new trail today. It was really cool not having any idea what was coming.
It was very hard leaving Ashley this morning. I know I will see her again in a month but it’s hard knowing she is going back to normal life and I’m continuing on with something completely different. I feel like I’m missing out on the experience of the next three months with her.
We ate the continental breakfast at the hotel this morning and were shuttled back to the trail by 10:15. The 22 miles were pretty easy today. We had a 6 mile ascent up to a ridge, but once we were on top the ridge walk was quite flat for the rest of the day. On the way up we passed a patch of bloomed flowers.
On top of the ridge we were surprised to find a bald section of trail with some nice views. The surprise reminded me that we hadn’t seen that section of trail before. It was exciting to think of all the things ahead that will be new.
The entire 12 mile ridge walk had no water sources. We pushed through pretty quickly and made it to water without any issue. By 7:20 we were at camp, and I got in my tent by 9. I’m definitely tired and ready to sleep.
Tomorrow we will hike around 20 miles. It isn’t supposed to rain tomorrow, but Tuesday and Wednesday are going to be wet. In all likelihood Thursday will be less than a 10 mile hike into Daleville. We will pass McAfee Knob on Wednesday, a famous AT overlook with an interesting rock cliff. It will probably be raining but hopefully we can at least see some of it.
I’m headed to sleep.
Goodnight,
Walker
