Day 56 Into Waynesboro
Today was pretty quick but not the easiest since we were tired from pushing through a lot of miles for the past couple weeks.
I slept for a solid 7 hours and woke up to about a dozen different bird species singing their songs in the field where we camped. Some of the bird noises are annoying, like crows, blue jays, and geese. But most are really cool and song-like, like robins, chickadees, cardinals, and thrashers.
We packed up and started trying to get a hitch back to the trail around 7:30. A very nice lady on her way to work in a minivan stopped and drove us the 5 miles back to the trail. We started hiking around 8:15.
We covered 19 miles with very little elevation gain or loss. The trail was mostly easy with the exception of some loose rocks that made our feet sore and slowed us down as we tried not to roll our ankles or stub our toes. There were some beautiful overlooks and spring is definitely making everything green.
We finished the 19 miles before 4 and shuttled into Waynesboro. We did laundry, a resupply, and ate Mexican food. We are staying at a motel in Waynesboro tonight. Tomorrow we will shuttle back to the trail around 8 and hike about 25 miles of the Shenandoah National Park.
Goodnight,
Walker
