Day 57 Starting Shenandoah
We hiked 24.5 miles into the Shenandoah National Park.
I slept well in the hotel last night and we shuttled back to trail and started hiking around 98:45AM. The Shenandoahs are incredibly easy and flat compared to the rest of the trail we’ve been hiking. We hiked up a couple thousand gradual feet over the first four or five miles. On the way we hit a couple meadows.
We stopped for a quick snack by a stream then had some trail magic at a road crossing. We talked with another thru hiker named Frizzle who we have hiked around for a few days.
After the trail magic we pretty much hiked through trees on flat trail for about 10 miles. We stopped for dinner by a stream. Then we climbed Blackrock Mountain and had an excellent view.
From Blackrock we hiked another 3 miles and set up camp at a stealth site at 8PM. Now we just need to hang the bear bag and go to sleep.
Tomorrow we plan to hike 22 miles and do a quick run into the town of Elkton to grab another three days of trail food and shuttle back to the trail to camp for the night.
The weather continues to be awesome and the forecast calls for more of the same. So far the Shenandoah has been awesome with weather and easy trail but has not had the same amount of views that we have been seeing. I’ll be curious to see what the rest of the national park looks like.
Goodnight,
Walker
