Day 68 Cumberland Valley
Today we braved 90 degree heat and hiked through the very flat Cumberland Valley.
I slept incredibly well last night until 6:45 when we started packing up. We were hiking just after 8 with 22.5 miles to go.
We got all of our hill climbs out of the way in the first 8 miles of the day. Most of the hills were covered in open hardwood forest and we didn’t have many views.
For the next 14 miles we walked through agricultural fields in the Cumberland Valley. Occasionally we would hike through some thick forests and over small streams.
We stopped by one stream to eat lunch. After eating Spencer and I went for a swim in the cold water. In such a hot day it felt amazing.
We met up with Tyler’s grandparents right at the end of the valley and they brought us our next resupply which we left with them a couple days ago. They also took us out to dinner. All of this help makes PA feel so much more like home.
After saying goodbye to Tyler’s grandparents we hiked another 5 miles up and out of the valley. We sat at an awesome overlook on the way up and could see the whole valley behind us.
We are tenting on top of a ridge tonight near a shelter. Tomorrow we will hike a pretty flat 26 miles through some more heat, but it’s supposed to rain in the afternoon. That will be nice to cool us down.
Goodnight,
Walker
