Day 71 Rocks

Today we finally found the rocks in Pennsylvania.

I slept really well in the hotel last night. Lynie took us to breakfast and I had the biggest chocolate chip pancakes I have ever seen. These things were probably 2 pounds each, about 9 inches in diameter and over an inch thick. I definitely wasn’t able to finish all my food.

Lynie dropped us back at the trail and we were hiking just after 10AM. For most of the morning the trail was very smooth and easy. I was a little slower than normal because I ate so much for breakfast and the heat but after taking a couple breaks and drinking some water I felt great.

We started down in a valley, crossed a cool bridge, then hiked up onto the ridge where we spent the rest of the day.

On the way up the ridge we started climbing over the rocks that Pennsylvania is famous for among hikers.

On the ridge we had several good views.

With about 2 miles left on the day we passed mile marker 1,200.

To end the day we hiked downhill for a mile and then followed a side trail for a half mile to where we met Tyler’s grandmother’s friend Nancy. Nancy lives just a half mile off the AT so it was pretty cool to walk right down to her property. She very kindly bought us subs and pizza for dinner and showed us around her beautiful property.

We will spend the night at Nancy’s tonight then hike out early tomorrow.

Goodnight,

Walker
