Day 79 Long Day

It rained quite hard last night. With the rain coming and going I woke up every couple hours. I probably slept a total of 3-5 hours. In the morning my tent was soaked. My gear all worked well, but packing up a wet and muddy tent is never fun.

It mostly rained in the morning. We hiked past a pond. It’s interesting how there aren’t really natural ponds or lakes south of PA.

For most of the rest of the morning we bounced between forests and ridges.

The trail ran right past a restaurant at a road crossing so we stopped for lunch around 1PM. The rain really started to let up after lunch.

We were trying to hike 31 miles so we moved pretty quickly through the last 16 miles of the day. We stopped briefly at a large stone structure on top of Sunrise Mountain that I’m sure would have an awesome view without all the fog.

The last 10 miles of the day were mainly down in the woods, but a half mile before camp we had an awesome view at the highest point in NJ on the AT. The obelisk in the distance marks the highest point in the whole state, but the trail doesn’t quite hit that point.

We made it to camp by a shelter around 8PM after a long day. We quickly set up our tents and ate dinner. Tomorrow we should have sun and 65 degrees. We will try to take advantage of the weather and hike 29 miles.

Goodnight,

Walker
