Day 85 Conneticut Rain
Today was another day of rain, but we were able to get into a town for lunch to dry out a little.
We slept in this morning and enjoyed relaxing a little. I slept fantastically until 7. It rained for most of the night and it only got wetter as the morning progressed.
We ate breakfast in our tents and finally got moving around 8:45. We crossed Ten Mile River and hiked through the last couple miles of New York before crossing into Connecticut for the last time.
We hiked up into the mountains while getting soaked by rain.
We were about to stop for lunch and realized the rain was supposed to stop in a couple hours. We also realized we were about a mile away from a town. So we decided to walk the road into town, dry off a little, and wait out some of the storm.
We went to a couple different restaurants in town. I had a burger at the first one and a bowl of chili at the second. We started hiking again at 3:30 as the rain stopped.
After our break we hiked up Caleb’s Peak.
We then had a very steep and slippery descent down into the valley. Once we made it down we hiked along a river for a few miles then passed through a beautiful field.
We hiked the last 10 miles of the day and made it to camp around 8:15. We only went 19 miles today but considering we took a two hour break in the middle of the day and had a late start 19 miles isn’t the end of the world.
Goodnight,
Walker
