Day 86 1500 Miles
Today we hiked our last day in CT and I covered 27.5 miles in 10.5 hours.
We had an awesome campsite last night and I slept fantastically. I woke up at 6AM and felt very well rested. Our campsite had a nice grassy field, a covered eating area, a wooden deck, and a bench swing.
In the morning we had a lot of ups and downs, some of them were quite steep. We began with a steep ascent then quickly dropped down to a river crossing.
We then hiked back up to an overview before steeply climbing up and through a stone crevice called Roger’s Ramp.
We had a good view from the ridge before stopping for lunch.
Tyler and I stopped for lunch while Spencer went ahead to meet up with his fiancée Brooke in the early afternoon. When we stopped a massive garter snake slithered out of some grass. I’ve never seen such a big garter snake, usually they’re like 10 inches and skinny but this one was over 18 inches. Might have been 2 feet long.
After lunch Tyler and I made excellent time through a valley walk. We passed through fields surrounded by mountains, over a river, and passed a large waterfall.
We also hit the 1,500 mile mark which means we only have 700 miles left.
Tyler and I made it to Salisbury CT around 4:45PM. Tyler stopped here to meet up with his girlfriend Kristina. I kept hiking for another 3.5 miles to my campsite for the night. I will camp out tonight and meet Ashley tomorrow afternoon. She had plans with one of her roommates so I will take Sunday off with her instead of Saturday. Meanwhile, Spencer and Tyler will take Saturday off and catch up between Sunday and Tuesday.
On the way up to my campsite I had a beautiful view of the valley below.
I’m about 3 miles from Massachusetts right now, and I will cross out of Connecticut tomorrow morning. I’ll hike 17 miles then shuttle into Great Barrington MA where I will meet up with Ashley.
Goodnight,
Walker
